About Niko Kherkeladze

He was born on 17 August 1953 in Akhalgori, Georgia.

In 1977 he graduated with honours from the Tbilisi State Academy of Art and later from the post-graduate course of the Academy.

He is a professor at Tbilisi State Academy of Art, and has been a member of the International Art Foundation since 1984, and a member of the Union of Georgian Artists since 1983.

Niko Kherkeladze has put on numerous exhibitions in Georgia, Germany, Japan, Bulgaria, Romania, Italy, France and Russia (mostly in Moscow).

His works have been awarded with diplomas and medals. His works are now in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow and in the Karl Marx State Museum in Germany, as well as in the private collections of the mayor of Moscow, Yuri Luzhkov, the former prime minister of Russia Vladimir Chernomyrdin, the former president of Russia Boris Yeltsin, the former president of Iran Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, the former Turkish president Suleyman Demirel, and others.

In 2010 in Paris, France, Niko Kherkeladze presented his works at the Carrousel du Louvre, where he and ten other artists were awarded a diploma and prize (600 artists took part from 100 countries in the competition). Since 2008 he has been an academician of the National Academy. In 2010 Niko Kherkeladze was made a member of the Art Academy of France.

Artistic Career

In 2010 in France, city of Paris, Niko Kherkeladze had presented his works at the Carousel near Louvre where he together with ten other artists had been awarded the diploma and prize (600 artists took part from 100 countries in the mentioned competition). Since 2010 Niko Kherkeladze is selected as the member of art Academy of France.

The artistic world of Niko Kherkeladze is very individualistic, sincere and refined, mostly painted in pastel shades that bring life to the works. While looking at his paintings, you’ll feel positivity radiating out, the paintings themselves seeming to breathe with life – talking to you without words.

Born into the family of an official in Akhalgori in 1953 , Niko Kherkeladze graduated with honours from the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts in 1977. Kherkeladze is still very productive today and he has put on several solo exhibitions, taken part in numerous group showings and has had his paintings exhibited in a plethora of countries: Georgia, Germany, Russia, Bulgaria, Romania, Japan, Italy, France

and more. His works are preserved in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, and in Karl-Marx-Stadt in Germany and have been also purchased by private collectors.

Niko Kherkeladze has been awarded medals and diplomas and some of his most important honours include: the Prix d’Honneur du Salon Carrousel du Louvre for his painting Pirosmani (2010), the 2013 Vazha-Pshavela Prize for his particular contribution to Georgian art, and the Galaktion Tabidze Prize for paintings based on the poems of Galaktion Tabidze. He also holds the honorary title of Georgian Culture Representative.
